Tips to write a personal statement
The personal statement is one of the documents that is submitted to a university you want to go to. This document will most probably decide whether you get in or not. Therefore, you have to take it seriously. Do not write a personal statement at the 11th hour "write". Try to spend as much time on it as you can because it will decide your future. You can always take help from an essay writer to help with your personal statement.
Before you start, find out what parameters are required in your personal statement for the university. For example, which font and size are required? What should be the spacing and margin parameters? Is there a word limit? Remember the admissions committee has a lot of applications to go through. Do not give them a reason to reject your personal statement without even reading it so make sure your format is correct. You can easily find these parameters on the university website.
The word “person” appearing in the personal statement is very important. It means that you have to explain who you are. The admissions committee wants to see your personality. Do not write any information that is on your transcript e.g. your name, the courses you have studied, and your grades "writing". You have to tell them what kind of a person you are, not what kind of a student you have been. Show them that you are unique, creative, and original. Ask yourself, “when I write my paper am I thinking outside the box? Am I being boring?”
One of the best strategies for writing your statement is to tell your story. The story should be based upon a theme. Try to spend time and figure out what the theme of your story is. A story should not contain facts about you. It should tell your experiences and how they helped you in deciding what you want to do with your life. Dig deep into your life and find the theme for your story. For example, if you are aiming for medical school then at what point in your life did you decide to be a doctor. Use your history to build a story and be specific.
The introduction of your personal statement should grab the attention of the reader. Start with a hook that makes the reader curious about you. Never start by telling your name, hometown, and study area as the reader can get this information through your documents. The introduction paragraph will tell the reader about the theme of your story. For example, if your theme is sports then use a sports analogy with your life to explain how you want to win and become successful.
In the introduction do not state your interest in the school. They know that you want to come to their school because you have applied so no need to tell them this. Do not try to flatter them and say that you are the best "essay". They know they are the best and that is why you are applying to go there. Always tell them what you can offer to them and how you can help the school. Sell yourself in such a manner that the school will benefit by admitting you.
Do your research about the school that you want to attend. Find out the special features offered in the program in that school and how it is different from other schools. Read everything on the website about campus life, why the school is famous, and what modern equipment does the school has? Be familiar with the ranking of the school in the world or the country. Read reviews of the alumni and if the school was ever mentioned in the news. In your research pay attention to the words that are used repetitively and use them in your personal statement.
The body paragraphs will contain elements of your story. Every paragraph will move the story along and have a sub-theme. Connect yourself with the school. Show how your story and the school's story are similar. Give examples of how you can fit into the school easily and how you are compatible with them. After the body paragraphs write a conclusion that sums up your story.
At his point the first draft of your personal statement is ready. Read it multiple times and edit it for improvement. You may have many drafts but in your final draft, there should not be any spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes, and punctuation mistakes. Fix all the mistakes because they can portray you as careless. Tell the readers that you were serious in writing this and you will put the same effort into your studies. Convince them that you will succeed.
When you are finished with your final draft, get it checked by a fresh pair of eyes. You can always take help from a professional paper writing service in this regard. Get a new perspective for your paper from someone good at writing and editing "writer". You may have read your statement many times and may not be able to identify the mistakes. Get feedback and make corrections accordingly.
Be honest with what you write. Don’t try to be something that you are not in real life. Be confident with your experiences and achievements. Concentrate on your strengths and qualities. Give evidence of your motivation and commitment. Be clear and concise and use positive words. Remember to take it seriously because it can set you for life.
